Why purepixxi Exists

We believe materials matter
more than labels.

purepixxi was not created to make pretty jewelry. It was created because the jewelry industry had no interest in answering a straightforward question: what is actually touching her skin?

We understand
why you stopped trusting
the labels.

You read the box. It said hypoallergenic. You trusted it. Then her ears turned red and she told you they hurt and you felt like you had let her down. That is not your fault. Hypoallergenic is not a regulated term. It requires no testing. It means precisely nothing.

The question was never whether earrings could look beautiful.
The question was whether they could be genuinely safe.
purepixxi brandmark
The purepixxi founding principle A child's jewelry should meet a higher standard than adult jewelry, not a lower one. Young skin is more reactive. The stakes are higher. The materials have to be right.

We looked to medicine science, not fashion

The two materials in every purepixxi earring, Surgical Steel and 24K pure gold, are chosen because they are used inside the human body. Not because they are on trend.

We show you precisely what is inside

No proprietary alloys. No vague material certificates. Every component is named and every material choice is explained. You should be able to know what is touching her skin without having to trust us blindly.

We use only 24K gold because it is the only honest choice

Lower karat gold is cheaper because it is diluted with other metals. Those metals are what cause reactions. 24K is the only gold that contains no alloy mix at all. We will not use anything else.

We didn't set out to make the prettiest earring.
We set out to make the safest one.

Turns out we made both.

The fact that they are beautiful is something we are proud of. It was never the starting point.

Not Everything Labeled Safe Really Is

The label says safe.
Her skin tells the truth.

The word hypoallergenic sounds reassuring. But it is not regulated. It does not require testing. And it does not tell you what metals are actually inside the earring touching her skin every single day.

What moms told us before they found purepixxi

"

The box said hypoallergenic. Her ears were swollen by morning. I felt terrible. That word means nothing and nobody tells you that until it is too late.

The back got pushed so far in the skin started growing over it. We had to go to the pediatrician to get it out. I had no idea that could even happen.

"

Her soccer coach made her take them out five minutes before the game. She was crying. I was digging around trying to get the backs off and we were both completely stressed out.

She came to me saying her ears hurt and they were oozing. I had bought those earrings. I had put them in. I know it was not really my fault but it felt like it was.

"

I only found out about the lead recall because another mom posted about it in our school group. I went straight home and threw out three pairs. I still feel sick thinking about how long she had been wearing them.

I have bought hypoallergenic, sterling silver, gold-plated. Something has always gone wrong. I am not interested in another label. I just want to know exactly what is touching my kid's skin.

Material Intelligence

Every material chosen
for one reason. Her skin.

We didn't start with a cost target. We started with a safety standard. Four decisions. Each one deliberate.

Cross section showing S316L Surgical Steel core with 24K gold electroplated surface layer

Two layers.
Both chosen for a reason.

The inner core is S316L Surgical Steel, the grade specified by ASTM F138 for medical implant use. The outer surface is Aunix™ 24K Pure Gold, electroplated onto the steel so every point of skin contact is 24 karat gold.

Surface Layer
Aunix™ 24K Pure Gold

The only gold that contains zero alloy mix, electroplated onto the steel core so the surface touching her ear is 24 karat gold. Lower karat gold is diluted with other metals, and those metals are what cause most reactions.

Core Base
S316L Surgical Steel

The grade specified by ASTM F138 for medical implants and surgical instruments. Its low carbon content resists corrosion, which is what keeps its metals locked in the alloy. Tested under EN 1811 by SGS, nickel release was not detected.

Our Promise
No Mixed Alloys

Most fashion jewelry uses undisclosed base metals and mixed alloys to cut costs, and nickel released from them is the leading cause of contact dermatitis in children. purepixxi uses two materials only, both named in full, with nothing hidden underneath.

Precision Engineering

Made to the standard of
medical manufacturing.

We didn't look to the fashion industry when designing purepixxi. We looked at how medical components are made. Every earring is machined, formed and finished using those same precision processes, from a steel grade specified for implant use.

CNC precision milling of S316L Surgical Steel
Step 01
CNC Precision Milling
S316L Surgical Steel milled to exact tolerances. Smooth surfaces and no sharp edges, tested against the ASTM F2923 requirement for children's jewelry.
Laser precision forming of earring settings
Step 02
Laser Precision Forming
Each setting is laser formed under controlled conditions, sized for young ears rather than scaled down from adult jewelry.

Step 03
Aunix™ 24K Gold
Pure 24 karat gold electroplated onto the S316L Surgical Steel core. The surface that touches her skin is 24 karat gold. Nothing else.
Sterilization and sealing process
Step 04
Sterilized and Sealed
Each pair is sterilized by vapor process, then sealed in an HDPE-backed protective capsule before it leaves the facility. It reaches her untouched.

The Gold Standard. Literally.

Not all gold is the same.
Especially for young skin.

Most jewelry brands use 9, 14 or 18 Karat gold. What they rarely tell you is that lower karat gold is mixed with other metals to reduce costs. Those added metals are the usual source of reactions in young skin. The lower the karat, the more alloy in the mix, and the higher the risk.

9K
9 Karat Gold
37.5% gold
Over 60% other metals including nickel, copper and zinc. One of the most common triggers of skin reactions in children.
14K
14 Karat Gold
58.3% gold
More than 40% other alloys. Still contains metals that trigger sensitivity in young skin even if labeled as safe.
18K
18 Karat Gold
75% gold
Marketed as premium. But 25% of the mix is still other active metals that can cause problems for reactive young skin.

FAQs

Straight answers.
No marketing language.

Everything you need to know before you choose.

We cannot answer yes for an individual child, and any brand that does is overreaching. What we can tell you is what the material does.

Nickel release from purepixxi earrings, tested under EN 1811 by SGS, was not detected. That is below the 0.1 micrograms per cm² per week the method can measure, and well under the 0.2 limit for posts worn in pierced ears.

S316L Surgical Steel does contain nickel, as almost all surgical steels do. Its corrosion resistance is what keeps that nickel locked in the alloy. If your daughter has a diagnosed nickel allergy, that test result is the evidence to take to her doctor, not a substitute for asking them.

On its own, "surgical grade" is a marketing term with no fixed meaning. The specific grade is what matters.

purepixxi uses S316L Surgical Steel, the grade specified by ASTM F138 for medical implant use. Its carbon content is under 0.03%, which gives it the corrosion resistance that keeps its metals locked in the alloy. Tested under EN 1811 by SGS, nickel release was not detected. That is a material specification with a test behind it, not a label.

purepixxi is designed for girls aged 3 and above with fully healed ear piercings. Our Butterfly Backs are sized above US small parts thresholds for children ages three and above. Adult supervision is still recommended during changes.

Lower karat gold is diluted with other metals to reduce cost. 9K gold is only 37.5% gold; the rest is alloy including nickel, copper and zinc, and nickel released from alloys like these is the leading cause of contact dermatitis in children.

24K gold is pure gold with no alloy content. Aunix™ 24K Pure Gold is electroplated onto the S316L Surgical Steel core, so the decorative surface that rests against the front of her ear is 24 karat gold.

Yes. Each post includes a precision notch that locks the Butterfly Back into place, so it holds through sport, school and playgrounds.

Swimming is fine. S316L Surgical Steel resists corrosion in chlorinated and salt water, and 24 karat gold is chemically inert in the same conditions. Rinse and dry after any water exposure, and clean with mild soap and water weekly.

If it fails through craftsmanship or material quality, we replace it, for the life of the product. The full terms, including what is not covered, are published in the purepixxi Promise. When you choose carefully, you should not have to buy twice.

purepixxi earrings are engineered with the same seriousness applied to parenting, designed specifically for children. Because everyday earrings should never be a compromise between safety and style.
