Most reactions in children come from nickel. It is found in the vast majority of fashion earrings, including many that call themselves hypoallergenic. purepixxi uses 24K Pure Gold electroplating bonded to a Surgical Steel core. Neither material contains free nickel. The gold layer is not a coating over an unknown base. It is bonded by electrodeposition, so the only surface in contact with her skin is pure gold.
Karat measures how much of an alloy is actually gold. 14K gold is only 58.3% gold, the rest is copper, silver, and other metals that cause contact reactions. 18K is 75% gold. 24K is pure gold with no alloy mix at all. Lower karat gold is cheaper to produce but the metals used to fill the gap are exactly what make children’s ears turn red. purepixxi will not use anything lower than 24K.
Not the way gold-tone or gold-filled products do. The 24K gold layer is applied by electrodeposition, a process that bonds the gold directly to the Surgical Steel surface at a molecular level. It is not a coating that sits on top and flakes off. It is a bonded layer. Normal daily wear including showering, swimming, and sleep will not remove it.
Yes. Surgical Steel does not corrode in chlorinated or salt water and 24K gold is chemically stable in the same conditions. The notched post and scroll-style Butterfly Back are designed to hold through physical activity without the back migrating or embedding. purepixxi is built for real childhood, not just for special occasions.
The post has a precision notch that the Butterfly Back clicks into and holds against. It will not loosen gradually the way standard butterfly backs do. The scroll-style butterfly is shaped to give the exact amount of skin contact for comfort and cleanability, while keeping the back secure through swimming, PE, and sleep. It releases with deliberate pressure, which means it stays on when it should and comes off when you want it to.
purepixxi earrings are designed for fully healed piercings. Most piercings require six to eight weeks to heal on the surface, though full healing takes longer. We recommend consulting your piercer before switching earrings. Once healed, 24K Pure Gold and Surgical Steel are among the most biocompatible materials available and are well-suited to sensitive young skin.
Warm water and a small amount of mild soap is all you need. The Surgical Steel core and 24K gold surface are both non-porous, so bacteria do not cling to them the way they do to porous or plated surfaces. Pat dry after cleaning. Avoid alcohol-based cleaners on the gold surface. Weekly cleaning is sufficient for everyday wear.
